An Important Tree is a Tree in Place

A dead tree is no less important than an alive one.

A common (bad) reason for tree removal is declining health or the health threat of adjacent construction. Trees in this situation are almost always assessed by safety against amenity, doomed to be removed entirely if it doesn’t perfectly serve us humans. This is tragic.

Dead trees are keystone structures on which ecosystems depend; rich in complex natural architecture that provides endless niche habitat opportunities. Plus, as they decompose in place, they release an immense amount of nutrients back into the soil to support the growth of their successors.

It is time to protect the life of ‘dead’ trees, and re-think the extent they are removed.
